Going to Uganda at 12 influenced my degree.

I visited Uganda in 2007 when I was 12 years old and it was an experience which helped shape my views and has undeniably had a considerable impact on my life. I firmly believe that what I saw and experienced in Uganda at that age turned me into the person I am today.

It was an experience that no doubt has shaped my own personal viewpoint on my own privilege but also influenced what I chose to study at University. I am now a Second Year Geography student with a strong interest in International Development. It still amazes me that because of the background I come from I had a much more wealth of experiences available to me. Ultimately being able to go to University is a fantastic opportunity, and because of my experience in Uganda throughout my teenage years I was more aware of the privileged position I was born in to, and was inspired to learn more about Development and become a better individual, for myself, and the global community.

Going to Uganda at such a young age is an experience I will always hold dear and I hope to go back someday as a young adult.
