On our first visit in 2005 we visited several schools to teach drama, art and sports. We received such a wonderful welcome. We were totally shocked by the number of children in each classroom and the limited resources, yet children were eager to learn. Many children were unable to attend school, either because they couldn't afford the uniform and equipment they needed or they couldn't afford the fees. Children were desperate to get an education. Many children, even if they had attended primary school, couldn't go onto secondary education because they were needed to help at home.
All the children embraced the drama and loved the art and sports.
They all attended the celebrations and feasts at the end of the visit. It left all of us with a heart to help in whatever way we could and a deep sense of humility at their great joy.
